Newport Duck Pond

Newport, RI

Square Feet: 6,100

Project Manager: John Machado

Landscape Architect: Reed Hilderbrand

Project Timeline: 8 months

In the fall of 2014 PCCI began work installing a duck pond at one of our favorite Newport properties.

While entirely man-made, the pond is designed to form a natural symbiotic nitrogen cycle as exists in all natural, healthy ponds. No chemicals will be introduced into the pond as two planted bogs filter the water and are aided by an underground vault and pump. This couples with the introduction of ducks, native fish, and oxygenating plants to encourage the development of a sustainable ecosystem. Water levels will be maintained first by collected ground water and nearby roof water run off with well backup.

The pond includes a six foot island as well as a custom-built floating duck house.
